Frank Trentmann's work has focused on consumption, civil society, and political culture. He directs the £ 5 million Cultures of Consumption research programme, co-funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). His recent publications include Consuming Cultures, Global Perspectives: Historical Trajectories, Transnational Exchanges (Oxford and New York: Berg, in press, edited with John Brewer); The Making of the Consumer: Knowledge, Power and Identity in the Modern World (Oxford and New York: Berg, 2006); Civil Society: A Reader in History, Theory and Global Politics (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005, edited with John A.
