Guidelines and Proposal Forms

Venue and Structure of CRESC Annual Conference 2008

The Annual Conference 2008 of the ESRC Centre for Research on Socio-Cultural Change (CRESC) will be held at St Hugh’s College in Oxford. Oxford is easily accessible from London and Birmingham airports and has a train station linking it to most major cities in the UK.

The conference will most probably start on Wednesday morning 3 September, and finish on Friday afternoon 5 September 2008. Each day will start with a plenary session, followed by several, simultaneously running 90-minute ‘open’ panels. After the lunch break the conference programme will continue with more simultaneously running 90-minute ‘open’ panels. In some cases the afternoon programme may incorporate another plenary session or a discussion panel. The evenings are reserved for film screenings, discussion panels, receptions and any other social events.

Participation

Anyone is welcome to submit an individual paper or full panel proposal on the CRESC Annual Conference theme Culture and Citizenship. It is the aim of CRESC to form a balance of speakers, with both young and established scholars from all disciplines, and with a fully international representation. To avoid scheduling problems we only accept one paper per participant. As well as offering a paper you may act as a moderator for panels, and be involved in workshops or other kind of discussion panels.

Proposals for Individual Papers

Proposals for individual papers, between 15/20-minutes long, are invited for open panels in response to the CRESC Annual Conference 2008 theme Culture and Citizenship. The convening committee will assess all individual proposals using the abstract provided, and place the selected papers into groups of three or four, forming various open panels.

Scholars interested in submitting an individual paper should read the Call for Papers and then complete the Individual Paper Proposal Form, providing an abstract of not more than 300 words.

The deadline for submission of individual proposals is 29 February 2008.

Proposals for Panels

Completed panels, including three 15/20-minute papers are encouraged and enthusiastically received. Scholars interested in submitting a full panel should read the Call for Papers and then complete the Panel Proposal Form, and ensure that all details for each of the panel participants are included.

The deadline for submissions of panels is 29 February 2008.
