Venue and Structure of CRESC Annual Conference 2009
The CRESC Annual Conference 2009, hosted by the ESRC Centre for Research on Socio-Cultural Change (CRESC), will be held from 1 to 4 September 2009 at the University of Manchester. The University of Manchester has an exceptional record of generating and sharing new ideas and innovations, and is also at the heart of a dynamic and expanding city that attracts an increasing number of students, visitors and businesses every year. Life certainly is for living in Manchester. It's a lively, cosmopolitan city offering you an enviable mix of multicultural attractions, bars and restaurants.
The conference takes place in the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) which is located on the Oxford Road campus about a 15 minute walk from the City Centre. Manchester Airport is one of the largest and busiest in the country, and most major airlines fly into Manchester. The airport is located about 16km south of the city centre, about 30 minutes from the RNCM, The airport has a number of transport links to the city centre: by a fast, frequent 24 hour train link to both Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations, and by bus which runs to Oxford Road and the City centre. There are also regular train services from Manchester to London Euston, and the rest of the UK.

Anyone is welcome to submit an individual paper or full panel proposal on the CRESC Annual Conference theme Culture and Citizenship. Proposals for individual papers, between 15/20-minutes long, are invited for open panels in response to the CRESC Annual Conference 2009 theme 'Objects - What Matters?'. The convening committee will assess all individual proposals using the abstract provided, and place the selected papers into groups of three or four, forming various open panels.
