As part of CRESC's work on 'The Visual' we will be visiting the Dark Matters Exhibition at the Whitworth Gallery on the 13th January.

"Exploring the impact of scientific, digital and mechanical invention upon visual culture, Dark Matters brings together the work of ten internationally acclaimed artists from across the globe who engage with ideas of darkness and shadow through a range of technologies. In an exhibition populated by half-seen spectres, visual riddles and distorted reflections, these artists explore themes of time, illusion and memory through a variety of media and machinery".

We will be joining a public event to mark the end of the exhibition. The planned timetable for the visit is:

12pm - Meet for lunch in Whitworth Gallery Cafe

1pm - Tour of the exhibition by curator Helen Stalker

2pm - Talk by Ellen O'Hara, one of the exhibition artists. "Slavick's works of abstract beauty expose the horror of war and, in particular the aftermath of bombing. Slavick will speak about her drawing project and subsequent book, 'Protesting Cartography - Bomb After Bomb' and will focus primarily upon her haunting work 'Hiroshima: After Aftermath' within the context of shadow, technology and art".
