The first drawing seminar (that took place in October) provided an opportunity for a number of us at the Open University and beyond to outline our interests in drawing, and to get a sense of how diverse and wide-ranging these interests are.
We’re hoping that over the course of future seminars we can develop further our discussions and see where our interests might take us in terms of future collaborations.
The next seminar takes place 2-4pm Tues 22 March, Gardiner 006, The Open University, (Milton Keynes).
We thought it would be good to focus this session on a couple of readings. These are:
- Leoni Schmidt 'Relational Provisionality: drawing as spatio-temporal critique', South African Journal of Art History, 23(1) 2008 107-117.
- Ernst van Alphen 'Looking at drawing: theoretical distinctions and their usefulness', 60-70, in Steve Garner ed Writing as Drawing, Intellect 2008.
The readings will each be introduced by a member of the seminar. We’d also like to incorporate some drawing into the seminar.
Everyone is welcome. No need to have attended the first seminar, or to have an advanced interest in drawing.
If you wish to attend the seminar and require copies of the readings please email Andrew Hill (a.hill@open.ac.uk).
