  • Professor Fiona Devine recently participated in the University of Cambridge Festival of Ideas (Exploring the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences for Free).  She gave a talk on the BBC’s Great British Class Survey on whether class still matters and what Britain’s class system looks like today.  The lecture was attended by over 200 members of the public.

There was a question and answer section with a lively discussion on whether classes exist at all, how we might distinguish between the upper and lower middle classes, whether class is associated with political struggle anymore, how cultural capital is about values as well as practices, the extent to which cultural and social capital may or may not be linked to health inequalities and a range of other topics.
