  • This ESRC-funded project on “Race, genomics and mestizaje (mixture) in Latin America: a comparative approach” started in January 2010. It is a comparative analysis of how ideas of race and ethnicity interact with genomic research in Latin America, where geneticists are mapping local population genomes, with the objective of combating diseases, and tracing “racial” ancestries. This involves fieldwork by three post-doctoral researchers in Mexico, Colombia and Brazil.
