Professor Cecilia Díaz-Méndez

Cecilia Díaz-Méndez is senior lecturer of sociology at the University of Oviedo (Spain). She has a degree in Psychology from the Universidad Autónoma in Madrid and she has a Ph D in Sociology from the University of Oviedo. Since 1996 her main research and lecturing interest has been the Sociology of Consumption and Sociology of Leisure. She is currently the Head of a research team on the Sociology of Consumption at Oviedo University.

Her other research interests are focused on Rural Sociology and the Sociology of Food. On the one hand, she is particularly interested in social and gender changes in rural areas, and, on the other hand, she is interested in the changes in habits of food consumption and modernization.

Both projects have been funded by Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia del Gobierno de España.

The purpose of Cecilia Díaz-Méndez whilst at CRESC is to study the differences and similarities in official surveys in food consumption in UK and in Spain. The ultimate aim is to draw, if possible, a pattern to compare the habits of food consumption in different countries based on official quantitative surveys.
