Research interests
Currently involved in research into the processes of transculturation associated with the role museums have played in the context of contact histories with significant implications for the social role of museums today and their position as agents of social change. In particular, examining the cultural history of access to museum resources, comparing this to the current, increasingly centralised and instrumental model of visitor "learning" throughout the museum sector in Britain, which arguably marginalises other forms of engagement that are less susceptible to measurement against targets (such as, imagination, wonder, diversion, reverie and resistance).
