Some information about me

Profile

  • My research interests fall into three related areas, each of which has tended to blend into the others at various times. The long-standing issue is that of power and spatiality, more particularly the difference that the latter has upon the mode and operation of the former. I am currently writing a book-length treatment of this topic.

In parallel to this topic, I have for some time been interested in the work of Henri Lefebvre, Georg Simmel and Siegried Kracauer. The latter two German theorists in particular have informed much of my thinking on a recent ESRC-funded project on the changing fortunes of contemporary Berlin (in collaboration with Allan Cochrane, Michael Pryke and Adrian Passmore). With others, I have published on their contemporary relevance for such issues as money, city life, and social interaction more broadly.

Finally, and more substantively, the shift to a service-based economy, and what that entails in terms of work, employment and knowledge, is an ongoing preoccupation. Recently, my focus has shifted to questions of power and economic knowledge.
