Profile

  • Biography: Till Geiger started his academic career as a Research Officer at the London School of Economics before taking up a teaching fellowship at the University of Aberdeen. Before coming to the University of Manchester, he taught European economic history and political economy at Queen's University Belfast from 1992 until 2001. Till joined the History Department as part-time lecturer and research fellow in September 2001 and was appointed to his present post in August 2003. 

    Degrees: lic. oec. HSG, Hochschule St. Gallen, 1986, Economics; M. Sc. (Econ)., University of London (London School of Economics), 1987 Economic History; Ph.D. in History (part-time), University of Aberdeen, 1999 History.

    Research and Teaching Interests:

    Transatlantic Relationship since 1945; Americanization of Western Europe; European integration history since 1945; European economic history since 1850.

    Current research projects include:

    • Ireland and the first cold war, 1944-1955;
    • The Marshall Pan and European industry
    • Political Economy and Economic Impact of British Defence Expenditure, 1945-1964;
    • The forgotten Marshall Plan: American Military Aid to Western Europe, 1949-1960.

    Current PhD students: I am happy to supervise research students in the areas of my research interest
