Drawing on recent interviews with those involved in developing and using the latest visualisation software within some of the key markets of global finance, this paper examines the implications of these new techniques of representation and suggests how visualisation techniques empower modern finance with fresh eyes designed to interpret and manipulate data and thus to enable participants ‘to see more and understand faster’. The paper argues that the contemporary visualisation of financial data raises issues about the visual in cultural conomic debates concerning the formatting and framing of financial markets.
